Sleep Log

About this Resource

A sleep log (or diary) is used to gather information about daily sleeping patterns. This information can then be used to monitor changes in sleeping over time. This particular version is based on the consensus sleep diary, which was developed by a panel of experts in 2012. Ideally, ask your clients to fill in the sleep log within the first hour of the final waking, aiming for at least 5 entries a week.

Grounded in the Research

“Prospective monitoring of sleep with daily sleep diaries is an essential component of self-reported sleep parameter assessment. Sleep diaries offer several inherent advantages over single-time-point retrospective assessments, including ability to capture night-to-night variability in sleep and reduction in potential retrospective bias.”
